ABOUT US

In August 2016, a rising Yorktown High School junior, Mia Lee, revived an idea to collect new and gently used sports equipment from Arlington residents and organizations to donate to others. The original idea came from her middle school friend, Jack Keenan, but languished until 2016 when Mia recruited fellow Yorktown High School friends to found the Reuse and Replay Club in Yorktown, which has since expanded to other Arlington High Schools.  With Mia off to college in August 2018, responsibility for Reuse and Replay transferred to Katy Talotta and Eliza Franklin.

The impetus for establishing Reuse and Replay was based on (1) Mia's observations of children in Costa Rica and Kenya playing soccer with little more than rolled up rags for balls, (2) the benefits of her own experience playing years of travel and recreational soccer, and (3) the realization that while comparable sports donation organizations existed in neighboring Maryland, none existed in afluent North Arlington, Virginia.

Since its inception, Reuse and Replay has collected and distributed over 3,000 sports items, including cleats; soccer, football, basketballs; tennis/ badminton/racquetball racquets; baseball bats, balls, and gloves; in-line and ice skates; hockey sticks and pads; golf clubs/bags, and much more. Baseball bats, helmets, and balls have been given to a school in Anacostia, and over 140 cleats were given to compliment Mt. Olivet's monthly distribution of food and clothes to the needy.  For kids who cannot afford the cost of sports equipment, we provided hockey skates and padding to the Fort Dupont Ice Skating Rink, softballs to the Washington National Youth Baseball Academy, and children's sports equipment to the Community Family Life Services in Washington, DC.  Lacrosse equipment and pads are being donated to a DC-charity that uses lacrosse to involve and teach life skills to boys and girls in the Washington, DC area completely free of charge. Weights/bench and three large SUV-full of sports equipment have been given to our partner in Maryland, Leveling the Playing Field.

We welcome requests for distribution to other schools, programs, or organizations, particularly those in Arlington.
